Dungeon ‘23 - Week 3

I got a few days ahead last week finishing up the outer walls and the guard towers (realized I had written ahead up to the 19th), so for this week I’m only going to include the rooms from the 20th - 22nd. Next week’s post will pick up with D23 and D24 (which are written). A good chunk of next week’s work is going to be creating a Hedge Maze, which is going to take a good chunk of time.

Finally moved to the inside of the walls for the second half of the month!

D20 - The Courtyard

  • A cobblestone path extends from the doors of the northwest tower and stretches both west and southwest.

  • A pair of elegant trees with smooth, lustrous bark and rainbow leaves.

    • Both have vaguely humanoid features, one male and the other female.

  • A marble statue with gold and silver veins depicting a powerful wizard dominates the courtyard.

    • A plaque at its feet reads “Master Ossifrage the Wise - by Rena”

    • The statue is a stone golem enchanted to defend the courtyard.

  • What appears to be an animated shrubbery wearing rusted, antique armor and leading a pony-sized grasshopper directs animated tools tending to hedges and flowerbeds.

    • They’re in a losing battle against rapidly growing thistles.

    • The shrubbery introduces himself as Syr Ninebark, a humble servant of the Gardener, and wears a thistle on his lapel.  His grasshopper’s saddlebags are laden with mulch and fertilizer.

    • If asked, explains that the Gardener is Ossifrage’s appointed groundskeeper and he speaks on behalf of the great wizard.

  • The clatter of the forge can be heard in the distance.

Stone Golem - STR 15, DEX 6, WIL 10 - HP 15

Slam (d8+2), Stone Hide (3)

- Indistinguishable from a statue when immobile.

- Resists all non-magical weapons and attacks.

- Created to guard a spot, item, or person - won’t abandon its charge.

D21 - The Smithy, Interior

  • Stuffy, hot, and poorly ventilated.

  • Barrels of water line the northern wall.

  • Eastern half of the building is sectioned off to store coal and charcoal. A small door flap leads outside for easy forge access.

  • Loft and the space beneath the loft stores hundreds of iron ingots.

  • Racks of helmets, horseshoes, and tools waiting for repair.

  • Two animated shovels and a wheelbarrow toil, moving coal and ingots back and forth to the forge.

D22 - The Forge

  • Animated tongs, hammer, billows, and forge work together to craft horseshoes, helmets, arrowheads, and nails.

  • Sounds of the forge can be heard throughout the outer ward.

  • Forge workers willing to do commission work for a reasonable price.
