NUKED! News - New Zines & More!
Howdy Skrappers! Our second-ever NUKED! crowdfunding effort has come to a close and zines are on their way to backers as we speak. It was a fun ride and NondairyGiant and I learned some valuable lessons along the way that we can’t wait to put into practice for our next fundraiser. And believe me, we’ve got plenty of ideas for more NUKED! content in the future - underground cities, poisonous swamps, and lakes of fire to name a few! We’re hoping to keep writing and publishing more NUKED! adventures and maybe even partner with some new writers to get different takes on the post-apocalyptic world, so stay tuned!
But enough about grandiose plans for the future! If you missed out on the Kickstarter campaign and want to pick up copies of Totally Radical Tales Issues #01 & #02 (and/or the NUKED! rulebook!) they’re now available on my webstore. Physical purchases come with a digital download and I’ll throw an itch.io redemption code your way if you want one.
In Issue #1 visit The Lost Valley of the Humanitarians, a stretch of wastes nestled betwixt the mountains! Seek out the treasures of Pierre Maximilian's Murder Maze, drop by the Boone Family Lodge for dinner, meet the strange River Folk, or catch up on the latest gossip with Trudy and Samson at the Tophat Diner! But it's not all sunshine and picnics, Skrappers. Stay sharp and be on the lookout for giant bugs, maniacal raidahs, and Lost Valley's very own Ol' Grisy!
The Skrapper's Handbook is an optional rules supplement that comes with new rules for character creation utilizing thematic Backgrounds that provide more cohesive packages of gear, Perks, and Mutations along with adventuring hooks that make it easier to jump into a NUKED! campaign. For the already established Skrappers it also comes jam packed with 50 new Perks and Mutations (that's 100 in total!) and an expanded armory of Relic weapons, armor, and gear that makes those old laser rifles and power armor seem downright boring in comparison!
NondairyGiant and I had a lot of fun putting these two zines together and we hope you all have fun using them at your table!
As far as the next steps for NUKED!, we’re hosting our first-ever NUKED! Jam on itch.io: Welcome to the Devil’s Highway! During the initial playtests of NUKED! back in 2020-21 the “setting” (if you could even call it that back then) included a long, dangerous stretch of road called “The Devil’s Highway.” It didn’t make it into the final rulebook, but it continued to be a mainstay in the adventures I ran for my original gang of Skrappers. When it came to figuring out a theme for this jam it only felt natural to include the Devil’s Highway - plus we haven’t really thought up an adventure that puts post-apocalyptic vehicles at the forefront!
Now that doesn’t mean your adventure has to be a high-octane adventure involving car chases and battles along a radioactive freeway (although that sounds pretty cool!) - you can write just about anything as long as it involves the eponymous highway in some way, shape, or form. It can be about a ghost town the route passes through, or a rest stop-turned-raidah fortress. Hell it doesn’t even have to be an adventure! Some folks are talking about writing up event tables for faster on-the-spot encounter generation at their tables.
So whether you’re an experienced adventure writer or just getting started (or somewhere in between), feel free to join the jam. It starts July 22nd and runs through August 31st!
And, as always, you’re welcome to join the NUKED! Discord server to chat with other fans of the game.
